Don’t Miss Out on Our 10-Year Anniversary Sale!

10th Anniversary Sale

I can't believe that 10 years ago today, I sat down at my computer following my first year teaching and bought the MrsWatersEnglish.com domain name. At the time, I knew I had a long journey ahead of me and that I was still sitting in the dark at the end of a very long tunnel. I also knew that, as a writer, I needed to both record my journey and connect with other people who were doing the same thing.

As a former journalist, writing has always come naturally to me and I had spent years both training for and practicing my craft. As a self-taught web design and hosting company owner and internet marketer, I knew I needed to take this journey online so that I could form my own professional learning community based on what I needed to take care of the students in front of me during any given year. (I just didn't really know how important this would be at the time, just that my school didn't offer much in the way of professional development.)

I also knew that I wanted to help teachers who were just starting the journey and could benefit from my very recently acquired wisdom while at the same time learning from those at various points ahead of me.

So I built my own self-hosted WordPress website, setup my Twitter account, and started writing. Since then, I've improved my practice through the Oklahoma Writing Project Summer Institute, my National Board for Professional Teaching Standards journey, and earning my master's degree in Instructional Leadership and Academic Curriculum at the University of Oklahoma.

After writing a blog post one night in 2014 that simply listed 40 short stories that teachers could use in their classrooms and providing links to resources to teach those stories, I realized I could perhaps earn some income serving English teachers like me -- up late at night trying to find answers to help engage students in the reading and writing practices they will need in life, to help them see themselves as readers and writers, and to help the develop their literacy identities.
