An entire year of quickwriting has been planned for you! Not only will you have the first five to 20 minutes of class taken care of, you can also extend each mode of writing into a longer text by guiding students through the writing process. Students will build writing stamina and confidence throughout the year.

  • Help students build writing confidence and stamina in just 5-20 minutes per day
  • Narrative prompts designed to amplify student voice
  • Informative prompts written to encourage student inquisitiveness
  • Argumentative prompts with multiple-perspective nonfiction articles
  • Assign relevant, real-world writing prompts all year long

I am so appreciative for these quickwrite prompts. First, they are unlike any set of prompts I have seen before. And since reThink ELA put them together, I did not have to spend hours thinking of original and engaging prompts. Secondly, they are arranged beautifully. It is effortless for me to pull a narrative prompt or a reflective prompt. I can use them as I need to with my different classes. They have really been a godsend as I work to incorporate more writing into my 9-12th grade classrooms.

Teacher's Guide

The teacher's guide includes instructions to help you prepare for class ahead of time, how to manage the quickwrites during class, including estimates of how much time each element will take. I recommend that you write with your students, and I include a recommended process for guiding students through the writing process as they extend a quickwrite of their choice into a longer text.

180+ Prompts And More!

I have included relevant activities and suggestions for each mode of writing based on my years of experience in the classroom and studies as part of my National Board for Professional Teaching Standards candidacy process, lessons developed as an Oklahoma Writing Project Teacher Consultant and student in the University of Oklahoma English Education master's degree program.

I was looking for some new and different writing prompts, and Michelle told me about the 180 Day of Quickwrites. I am so excited to use them! I have many prompts from past years, but these are completely new to me. There are even hyperlinks to sources to use in conjunction with some of the prompts. Also, the prompts are broken down into categories, making it easy to implement with different writing units. Finally, Michelle includes standards and directions to help teachers--whether you're new or a career teacher. I would definitely recommend these!

I also want to say that I'm understanding next level how rich your resources are!  I'm loving what you've done with the Curated Short Stories Library, adding the writing connections section.  I've also started using the reflective writing section in the 180+ Days of Quickwrites - my tutoring student loved the conversation, and was surprised at some of what came up for him.
